EXPLORE
The Wireframe
How do we make it easy for people to use this scheduling app?
In our iterations, we discussed with our clients what order and how to ask users for the information the algorithm needs.
EXPLORE
The Prototype
How do we make it easy for people to use this scheduling app?
I created clean designs with a couple of interactions with the client. When working on the prototype, the main challenge was blending the design system from the previous state while adhering to the iOS guidelines in the current iteration.
OUTCOME
#1: Designed for Scale, Enabling Future Flexible Workflows
Our designs allow a newer version of the app to add scheduling flows for different sleeping goals.
We focused on the core information the algorithm needed, sleep. So any different theme that needs to be scheduled can be adapted to the user flow.
OUTCOME
#2: It's Better to Use Mental Models
Our designs innovated on existing UX patterns to create a novel flexible scheduling UI (calendar control).
Our designs used the mental model of the iOS calendar as a base for an intuitive scheduling app.
OUTCOME
#3: The Value of User Scenario
Work Shops
Through conversations, helped the client understand the technical specifics of their use cases.
The client had a lot of open scenarios that they had not thought of when designing the workflow. We offered solutions and a sounding board for our client to finalize details.
CASE STUDY
LUMOS Sleeping Mask
How to Simplify a Complicated User Flow?
UNDERSTAND
The Problem
Lumos is a mask using light pulsing technology to help subside the side effect of lack of sleep. The app organized sleep schedules and alert users when to use their masks.
They are in the second iteration of their app and are focusing on accommodating more demanding schedules.

The app flow needed to adapt to the broadening audience. Before, the UX facilitated users traveling across time zones.
Now, Lumos wanted to schedule night shifts and sleep-intensive work schedules, such as medical doctors and personnel.
UNDERSTAND
The Task
We updated their existing app flow to fit with the evolving scheduling needs of their users.
The users needed an app that would allow them to schedule their work shifts and sleeping blocks while traveling through different time zones.
To recommend the proper sleep schedule, we needed to simplify how users input large amounts of information to satisfy their complicated algorithm.
Our team needed to create a user flow that was easy to use and engaging enough to deter negative user experiences.

My Role
As a UX designer passionate about research and prototyping, I like to establish my role in a project with three primary goals. These goals were insights from the market research, user interviews, and strategy conversations my team had with our client.

One: Innovate based on informed decisions
I focused on understanding the current market of scheduling apps and dissecting the Lumos app in its original state. This helped our team pinpoint where to follow industry standards and where to innovate for ease.
Two: Create with Flexibility in Mind
The leading UX designer and I helped refine the requirements creating a bridge between what is needed for the algorithm to work while keeping UX principles in mind for the new user needs.
Three: Collaborative Ideation
We treated our design reviews as user scenario workshops. We help the client align the parameters of their algorithm, the needs of their users, and UX standards to create a thoughtful user flow and interface.
